After 32 days of fighting, Lt. Col. Green was killed by North Korean artillery.

For his outstanding leadership and bravery at the Battle of the Apple Orchard, he was awarded the US Silver Star for Gallantry. In this photo, the American Military Attache presents Charlie's posthumous award to Olwyn Green.
