Landings were the most dangerous times, for crew and deck support personnel. Great skill and cool nerve were needed by all. Take-offs were a near second, since one never knew for sure if everything would work until trying it aloft. At a time of which the date escapes me, a plane took off from the flight deck andimmediately was in trouble, the engine failed and it ditched into the ocean. The carrierwent over the spot, and fortunately both pilot and observer came to the surface andwere rescued.
